These
drawings are about the confluence of experience with
memory; how each is informed and expanded by the other.
They are about those rare occasions where an event in
the physical world prompts me to experience a moment
with clarity.
The conscious
realization of one's actual, entire, physical, and
psychological existence in a world of ceaseless movement,
intricacy, light, and power visits and vanishes in
a mere instant. The sudden, involuntary abstraction
of all the familiar elements that make up a tree or
a
cloud or a light breeze into something freshly perceived
as emotion, even beauty, is a rare gift for which
art provides concrete residence.
These drawings
are rendered mostly from memory. I generally work on
them over a period of months. However, they can be
subject to radical revision, even after several years.
